Hiking Shop

If you are new to walking or hiking, welcome, we hope to be able to guide you through the basics of getting started and show you that it is never too late to take your first steps. The great thing about walking is that you can start as slowly as you like and gradually build up over time,  and it is also a very cheap way to get fit!

For you more experienced hikers out there, you already know about the joys of a good ole hike across the moors or down a coastal path, and more importantly the companionship that walking brings. We would love to hear of your favourite treks, whether they are a local track to you, or a challenging hike you have discovered, please let us know and we will put it in our Hiking Trails section.

We live in the deep South West of England, Plymouth to be exact, with Dartmoor 10 minutes away in one direction and stunning coastal walks, 10 minutes in the other, sorry, don’t mean to rub it in! But that’s why we put the site together, to help people find an enjoyable relaxing walk or a good 6 hour hike wherever they live. The other side of the site, Biking, is  another favourite pastime, and we aim to bring the same type of information and guides to people more interested in that activity.

Walking for Beginners

The most common reason for people not to start walking is; Where do I start? That’s the easy bit, you walk out the front door, turn left or right and starting walking! Yes, it really is that easy, the secret here is not to walk to far too soon. Realistically start with a gentle 10 minute walk, at least 3 times a week, and building up to 5 over a 4 week period. A reasonable pair of trainers will suffice at this stage but as you increase your distance and speed, and believe me you will, a proper pair of walking shoes or boots is a must.

Experienced hikers

Depending on the level you have reached; very much hinges on how far you want to cover in a day or a weekend, and that is where your personal equipment starts to become crucial to your enjoyment of the hike.  The key to enjoying your hike is being fit enough to cover the distance you have set, anything over a two hour hike means you have reached a level of fitness that, with a well structured warm up routine, you can push on to 3, 4 or even a 6 hour trek, and boy does that feel good!

So please enjoy the site, we have everything you could possibly need to take up, and pursue one of the most enjoyable activities you can ever partake in.
